Oktagon 54 weigh-ins: Four miss weight, but the show rolls on in Ostrava

There were multiple weight misses in Ostrava, but the Tipsport Gamechanger lineup remains intact for Oktagon 54 in Ostrava.

Oktagon MMA

Oktagon MMA’s Tipsport Gamechanger tournament had something of a tricky start on weigh-in day, as no fewer than three tournament contenders, plus a tournament reserve, failed to make the lightweight limit for their opening round matchups.

Current Oktagon lightweight champion Ronald Paradeiser, former lightweight champion Mateusz Legierski and German contender Hafeni Nafuka, plus reserve fighter Ebrahim Hosseinpour, all missed the 70.8-kilo/156-pound lightweight limit, but promotion officials confirmed the bouts will continue and remain part of the tournament.

The event, which features seven of the eight opening round bouts of the lightweight tournament, also sees a battle for the unified middleweight title, as reigning champion Patrik Kincl of the Czech Republic takes on newly-crowned interim champion Piotr Wawrzyniak of Poland for sole control of the 185-pound division. Both fighters hit championship weight on the scale for their main event clash.

The co-main event will feature Paradeiser’s first-round Tipsport Gamechanger bout with Attila Korkmaz, with chief support provided by former UFC featherweight Makwan Amirkhani, who has moved up to lightweight and entered the tournament as he starts a new chapter in his career. He takes on Austrian contender Mago Machaev.

And sparks flew between tournament rivals Akonne Wanliss and Sahil Siraj, with the pair clashing during their weigh-in faceoff.
