Cage Warriors have confirmed a huge championship bout for their July 25 event as they kick off the fight action during a massive week of fights in Manchester.
Cage Warriors 175 takes place on the Thursday of UFC 304 fight week in the city, with Cage Warriors middleweight champion Dario Bellandi putting his title on the line for the first time against Sweden’s Robin “Pretty Boy” Roos.
Bellandi is on a five-fight win streak, as he handed first career defeats, all via finish, to Joan Arastey, Justin Barry and Daniel Carlson, then defeated Naglis Kanisauskas to earn his shot at the title.
Bellandi then went on and outworked then-champion Mick Stanton to dethrone the Englishman and capture the title at Cage Warriors 164.
The Italian will now put his belt on the line for the first time against Roos, who has won five of his last six, with victories over Hakon Foss, Martin Hudson and Kevin Fryer, with the latter victory seeing him capture the middleweight title for Swedish promotion Superior Challenge.
Roos has recently signed a multi-fight deal with Cage Warriors, and gets the chance to fight for championship gold on his promotional debut.
“Manchester is hosting the biggest week for MMA in the UK this year, so it’s only right that Cage Warriors kicks it off with a huge international title fight,” said Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan.
“Dario has shown that he’s one of the most durable and dominant fighters in the division, but this is the first time he’s faced a striker like Robin. I’m expecting an exciting clash of styles.
“With Cage Warriors alumni like Paddy Pimblett, Molly McCann, Christian Leroy Duncan and Tom Aspinall taking centre stage at UFC 304, fans can be sure that the stars of tomorrow will be in action at Cage Warriors on July 25!”
