England’s Alfie Davis has been added to the fight card for Bellator 302 in Belfast, and he’s been handed arguably the toughest test of his career.
Davis, who has lost just once in his last eight outings – a decision defeat to top contender Alexander Shabliy – will face former Rizin lightweight Grand Prix champion Tofiq Musayev in a 155-pound matchup at the SSE Arena in Belfast on March 22.
It’s a bout that could push Davis towards a potential shot at the Bellator lightweight title, and an opportunity to claim a big-name scalp in the process.
Azerbaijan’s Musayev rose to prominence with a 15-fight win streak that culminated in him defeating Patricky Pitbull in the final of the Rizin lightweight Grand Priz in 2019. His unanimous decision win over the Brazilian saw him capture the tournament title, and propel him into a champion-versus-champion clash with Rizin lightweight king Roberto Souza.
Musayev lost that bout, then headed for pastures new and signed for Bellator, where victories over Sidney Outlaw, Akira Okada and Joki Takeda gave him three wins from his last four. Like Davis, his only recent loss came against Shabliy.
Now Davis and Musayev will face off looking to advance their championship ambitions at 155 pounds, with the bout joining a card topped by a light heavyweight title bout between Corey Anderson and Karl Moore.
The Davis vs. Musayev bout was confirmed by PFL/Bellator officials, who also announced a host of other matchups.
Tim Wilde will take on Manoel Sousa in a lightweight main card matchup, while Ireland’s Ciaran Clarke and Nathan Kelly are also set for action.
